Drones are one of the most engaging entry points into aerospace and robotics - but introducing them in an educational setting requires the right balance of excitement, structure, and safety.
In our RC Wings & Rotors program, younger students start with the fundamentals: how lift and control surfaces work, how to safely operate RC aircraft and beginner drones in a controlled, netted flight zone, and basic flight planning.
As students progress to Autonomous Drone Technology & Flight Programming, the focus shifts to programming flight controllers, setting GPS waypoints, and implementing basic obstacle-avoidance logic - using the same firmware concepts found in commercial and research drones.
These skills map directly onto growing career fields: drone-based mapping and surveying, agricultural monitoring, logistics, and aerospace robotics. By combining safety-first practices with real flight-control programming, students leave with both the confidence and the technical grounding to pursue these pathways further.
